The Sixth Extinction

2024-2025

To explore humanity's predicament and provoke public reflection on environmental issues, we have staged a production themed around “The Sixth Extinction”. This concept originates from Elizabeth Kolbert's book The Sixth Extinction, which details the ecological phase we are currently experiencing.

Focusing on this theme and embracing the concept of sustainable development, we source materials from nature and everyday life to construct our scenes.

The central element of the production is a “tree” built from branches and chairs, blending natural and domestic materials to reflect the state of our world today. As the “tree” undergoes transformations, it symbolises shifts in nature and humanity's living environment, prompting the audience to contemplate these changes.

The performance employs extensive use of light and shadow elements, achieving an immersive effect through projection rendering. The projected imagery incorporates both abstract visual representations and concrete textual content: the former aims to evoke the audience's appreciation of nature's splendour, while the latter, combined with sound, builds a tense atmosphere.
